Last year The Yorkshire Post joined forces with Harrogate International Festivals to bring back the popular The Yorkshire Post Literary Lunch.

Today we can announce the next event will take place on April 25 at the Cairn Hotel in Harrogate.

As well as enjoying a two-course entertaining lunch and the chance to hear from one of the country’s best known TV reporters, audiences will have the opportunity to buy pre-release signed copies of his new book, War and The Death of News: Reflections of a Grade B Reporter.

The compelling account mixes autobiography, reportage and a ‘state of the nation’ survey of wartime reporting.

Martin Bell has been under fire in conflicts from Belfast to Nigeria and El Salvador, and kept the company of soldiers, warlords, mercenaries and militias. He also spent four years in the House of Commons.

He draws on his memories as a soldier and journalist, using notebooks, diaries and poetry, reflecting on the pity of war, as well as the complex relationship between the media and the military.

The book is not due for general release until June.

Gemma Rowland, operations manager at Harrogate International Festivals, said: “We’re delighted to announce that The Yorkshire Post Literary Lunch will be a regular fixture.”

James Mitchinson, editor of The Yorkshire Post, added: “I was dismayed to discover upon taking The Yorkshire Post editorship that such a fondly-held Yorkshire tradition had withered on the vine prior to my arrival. I was convinced that we should reinvigorate the literary luncheons and having tentatively done so in 2016 the feedback and praise that I received on the day for its revival underscored to me that they must be put back on the calendar for good.”

The second literary lunch this year will take place during the Raworths Harrogate Literature Festival in October.

The Yorkshire Post Literary Lunch with Martin Bell will start at 12 noon.
