The redcoats will defend the Georgian country house from attack during re-enactments on the Bank Holiday weekend of Sunday May 1 and Monday May 2.

Each day, dramatic battles, artillery barrages, dense columns of French infantry and a rampaging cavalry featuring over 150 re-enactors will descend upon the Hall’s grounds.

There will also be the chance for visitors to explore the camps and discover the connection between the soldiers and the family who lived in the Hall.

Head of culture and visitor economy at Barnsley Council, Sue Thiedeman, said: “Cannon Hall and its awarding winning park and gardens are the perfect backdrop for the dramatic battle between the redcoats and the Napoleonic army. With 150 re-enactors taking part, history really will come to life.

“A perfect day out for all the family there will be lots of fun things to see and do, as well as the opportunity to learn a little more about the area’s fascinating local history.”
