Platform Open's 'underground' art at Major Tom's in Harrogate

French-born photographer Olivia Reece’s latest show SABLONS is running at Major Toms Social until March 9.

Olivia Reece’s new collection is inspired by an amazing piece of renovation at Sablons on the Paris metro.

The metro walls covered in large posters were being stripped back to their original surfaces, revealing multi layers of imagery documenting back 30 to 40 years.

The resulting juxtaposition of textures, colours and lettering provided Reece a unique opportunity to explore the boundaries of where photography meets with abstraction.

Born in Paris, Olivia Reece moved to the UK in 1995 leaving behind a medical career, but not her passion for travel.

She embraced the art world by working with her husband in his gallery for 10 years before studying a BA (Hons) in Photography at Harrogate School of Art and Design, where she graduated in 2007.

Since graduating, Reece has travel widely. Always armed with a camera, she continues to work across different personal photographic projects.

Her new collection comprises 40 very different images, ten of which feature in this exhibition. Each Giclee Print on archive fine art paper is a strictly limited edition signed by Olivia Reece.

The official exhibition launch will take place at Major Tom’s on The Ginnel in Harrogate next Thursday, January 28, from 6pm to 8pm.

The inaugural Platform Open Art Exhibition was held last October at Morphets of Harrogate auctioneers and offered artists the chance to submit up to three pieces for free. Contemporary art of all genres duly rolled in, including Enzo Marra, a painter from London, and Chloe Holt, a painter from Chester.
