Preview: Women In Music Day at Leeds College of Music

Building on the success of last year's Women in Music Day activity at Leeds College of Music, which included events, interviews with industry figures, 2016 aims to tackle more issues and points of debate in the music industry.

The event aims to look at accessibility, careers and barriers, as well as roles in the music industry and life at the ‘hard end’ – from the perspective of touring, production management, engineering and DJ-ing.

There will also be a discussion about image and identity in the music industry, from feminism to pop personas and body image issues.

The event opens with a keynote speech discussing the subjects of the day before moving on to a presentation session from key industry figures then panel discussions.

Including performances and networking, the afternoon aims to be be engaging and fun, building good discussion on equality in the music industry.

Panellists this year include Debbie Golt, chair of Women In Music UK, Kelly Wood, live performance official from the Musicians’ Union, publicist, manager and promoter Caffy St Luce, Fuzzy Jones, musician and manager of Chapel FM, and pianist Manny Vass, Women’s Equality Party founding member.
