Do you remember the donkey that spent the summer giving children rides on the bank of the River Nidd at Knaresborough? Today’s weekly nostalgia feature from The Yorkshire Post includes this lovely picture of Silver enjoying a well-deserved end-of-season drink in 1974.

Also featured in our collection of photographs from Septembers gone by is 11-year-old Jane Douthwaite taking a closer look at one of the Hepworth sculptures in Wakefield in 1977 and Paul Ratcliffe, of Headingley, meeting Princess Diana outside Dr Barnardo’s in 1988. There is a wedding picture of Yorkshire cricketer Geoff Cope and his bride June Burnett at Otley Parish Church Otley in 1972 and the first electric train arriving into Victoria Station, Sheffield, in 1954.
