Video: What to expect from the Brits tonight, and what time to watch

The Brit Awards tonight will pay tribute to George Michael. The biggest event in the British music calendar takes place at The O2 on with stars from Katy Perry to Ed Sheeran due to perform.

Former Wham! star Michael died aged 53 on Christmas Day.

The Brit Awards tweeted: “The Brits will pay tribute to George Michael tonight - a true British music icon.”

The tribute comes after the Grammys remembered the Last Christmas, Careless Whisper and Faith singer, with a performance from Adele one of the highlights of the ceremony.

As well as Sheeran and pop star Perry, who last appeared at the awards in 2014, Robbie Williams and Bruno Mars are also due to perform at The O2.

Sales of Michael’s songs soared in the weeks after his sudden death.

Police have said a post-mortem examination proved inconclusive and the results of further tests are yet to be revealed.

The awards will be screened live on ITV tonight (Wednesday, February 22 2017) at 7.30pm.

Dermot O’Leary and Emma Willis will host the event, having been brought in after original host Michael Bublé was forced to pull out after it was revealed his young son had liver cancer.

Clara Amfo, Laura Jackson and Alice Levine will host coverage of the red carpet arrivals on ITV2 from 6.30pm and will then go backstage from 10pm to 11pm.
