It takes time to create a masterpiece, and Ferens Art Gallery in Hull is arguable a masterpiece in itself.

Take a stroll around the changing exhibitions and sculptures from the really fancy to the far out. Rest assured, you don’t need to be an art critic to enjoy a visit here.

From warships to lions, there is something for everyone here. For starters it’s free, so you are guaranteed to see something different with temporary exhibitions all year round.

Don’t miss out on a chance to see the new art exhibition 3AM: Wonder, Paranoia and the Restless Night running until Dec 14. There are 22 international artists represented in the exhibition exploring nighttime themes such as clubbing, paranoia, nature and whiteness.

Another must-see is one of the pieces by the painter Frans Hals, his unidentified woman leaves us wondering who she really is. It’s a real mystery and fun to guess whether she’s a friend, wife or something more.

It’s great for kids too – check out the Children’s Art Gallery where they can craft their own works of art and they even have family resources packs for inspiration.

You could even have lunch in the Venue café which offer light bites, from salads to steaming paninis.
