Bostock, 29, will provide a big presence in the middle of the park, according to Moore, who is hoping to secure several other deals before next Monday’s transfer window deadline.

The Londoner, who started his career at Crystal Palace, was labelled as a ‘wonderkid’ and a once-in-a-generation talent in his formative years.

He made his debut for Palace at the age of 15 in 2007 and still holds the record of being the club’s youngest player.

The midfielder also held that record at Tottenham Hotspur for a spell when he made his bow at the age of just 16.

His career failed to hit those early heights and he has played for 11 clubs since in a nomadic journey.

His ports of call have included loan spells in Yorkshire at Hull City and Sheffield Wednesday.

Bostock has been out of football since leaving French club Toulouse last autumn when his deal expires.

He spent time training with Rovers recently, with his previous stint in England being on loan at Nottingham Forest last season .

On his addition, Moore, who is hopeful of further incoming business shortly, said: “I am really pleased that we have managed to secure the signing of John. He is an exceptional player and one who fits in with the culture and DNA that we have tried to bring into this club over the last season-and-a-half.

“I personally know John and we have spoken and we have had contact earlier in the season. We took the opportunity when he returned from France and I knew the situation he was in.

“With the work we have done at the football club to bring him here, credit to everybody at the football club and I thank John personally.

“The platform is there for him to play some games and we are trying to get his levels of fitness up and when he is ready to play, he will be a wonderful addition to us.

“He is what we feel the squad needed. We had a shortage in the midfield area and we have someone with the ability to fill in that area.

“He is a wonderful acquisition in terms of his experience and technical ability.

Bostock will not be involved in Tuesday’s League One home game with AFC Wimbledon as he concentrates on boosting his fitness levels.

Rovers have also brought in loanees Ellery Balcombe and Elliot Simoes so far this month and want to bring back Josh Sims for a second loan stint at the club from Southampton.
