Yorkshire hospitals record 53 new Covid deaths in daily NHS update

There have been 53 new Covid-19 deaths recorded at hospitals in Yorkshire, according to the latest statistics.

Figures released by NHS England show 664 deaths were recorded in the country's hospitals in the 24 hours to 4pm on Tuesday (February 9), including 53 in Yorkshire and The Humber.

The deaths were between December 3 and February 9, with the majority being on or after February 6.

The time taken for positive results to be received is among the potential factors in a delay between a death happening and being recorded.

Patients were aged between 21 and 100. All except 26, aged between 36 and 96, had known underlying health conditions.

Since April 28 2020, NHS England and NHS Improvement also started to report the number of patient deaths where there has been no Covid-19 positive test result but it is documented as a direct or underlying cause of death in the death certification process.

The figures for the latest reporting period show there were 73 such deaths in England.

Deaths were recorded at the following hospital trusts in Yorkshire and the Humber:

Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust - 1

Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust - 1

Doncaster and Bassetlaw Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust - 11

Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust - 4

Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust - 11

Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust - 8

Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust - 5

The Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust - 1

Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust - 3

South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust - 6

York Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust - 2

According to Government data, a total of 9,769 patients across all hospital trusts and community settings in Yorkshire and the Humber have died within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19 up to February 10.

This equates to 177.5 deaths per 100,000 people since the pandemic began.

Separate Office for National Statistics data, updated weekly, shows there have been a total of 10,767 deaths recorded in Yorkshire and The Humber where the death certificate mentioned Covid-19 as one of the causes.

This equates to 195.7 deaths per 100,000 people since the pandemic began.
