IT is ironic that online parties are proving to be the saviour of Yorkshire’s artisan cheese producers who say they have never been busier.

For, while the lockdown precludes families from socialising, people are seeking comfort from those delicacies that they would normally regard as an extravagance in January.

And there’s something delightfully Yorkshire, in a county renowned for its hospitality, about the growth of digital cheese and wine parties, with succulent cheeses being the focal point of ‘cheesy’ evening entertainment.

Yet what this does show is that there are still opportunities for the county’s acclaimed food and drink producers to come up with new promotions in the lockdown.

Even though Wensleydale remains out of bounds to visitors during the current restrictions, there’s nothing to stop Wensleydale (other products are available) coming to your home on these long winter nights – in the form of cheese.
