Murder hunt after attack victim dies

A MURDER investigation has been launched by detectives in South Yorkshire after a 45-year-old man was attacked outside his Doncaster home and died later in hospital.

John Lockwood, who had suffered a "serious assault" and sustained head and internal injuries, was found collapsed outside his home in Lauder Road, Bentley, at about 7am on Monday.

He was taken to Doncaster Royal Infirmary where he died at about 10.40am that morning.

A spokesman for South Yorkshire Police said: "It is believed Mr Lockwood had been making his way home from the Limbreck Court area of Bentley. He was seen in the vicinity of Wellington Grove and the alleyway leading to the rear of the West End Club, at approximately 2am on Monday morning."

Police are now working to trace Mr Lockwood's route home. Anyone with information should call 01302 385792.
