Michael Duff reveals Barnsley injury blow after Charlton Athletic defeat as Robbie Cundy absence explained

Barnsley boss Michael Duff has revealed that a hamstring injury was behind Josh Benson’s enforced exit during the Reds’ League One defeat at Charlton Athletic.

The Tykes had taken 19 points from a possible 21 but have now suffered back-to-back league losses after goals from Tyreece Campbell and Jesurun Rak-Sakyi dented Barnsley’s promotion hopes in a 2-0 win for Charlton.

A bad afternoon was compounded by the news that Benson had suffered a hamstring strain, as he was replaced by Ziyad Larkeche after 39 minutes.

"I think he has done his hamstring again. I don't know how bad it is or how long it will be, hopefully we got him off in time,” said Duff.

"It is a frustrating one because he was doing well in the game. It was one of those days."

Robbie Cundy was not part of the squad that made the trip to Charlton and Duff explained that was down to a knee problem that will likely keep him out until next month.

He added: "Robbie has got something in his knee, so he will be another two or three weeks.”
