Sheffield Wednesday 'discuss new Danny Rohl contract' with Hull City showing interest

First-time manager Rohl was already in demand after saving the Owls from Championship relegation but the vacancy created when Hull sacked Liam Rosenior over his style of football has added to it.

Rohl is under contract at Hillsborough until the summer of 2025, but Chansiri made clear when moving on Darren Moore in the last closed season he has no time for managers reluctant to be there.

Since taking over in October – winning 16 and drawing six of 38 games to take a team with three points from 11 to Championship safety – Rohl has shown great affinity with the fans but appeared scarred by a January transfer window where he was unable to sign or offload the players he wanted.

He made it plain end-of-season talks with Chansiri would decide his future, needing to be convinced of serious plans to improve the squad and infrastructure.

Recognising he needs to show his commitment, Chansiri reportedly floated the idea of a new, longer contract. Rohl has now gone on holiday, and talks will resume when he returns later this month.

Hull are on the lookout for a new coach after sacking Rosenior on Tuesday and Rohl has caught their eye, although they are aiming to make an appointment next week.

Style is important, which explains why Queens Park Rangers coach Marti Cifuentes – who did a similar albeit less dramatic rescue job – is in their thoughts, along with former Nottingham Forest coach Steve Cooper and Tim Walter, who managed Hamburg and Stuttgart.

Despite signing a new contract in December, Rosenior was sacked when Hull missed out on the play-offs by one place and three points.

“Liam has a football philosophy, which I completely respect," said owner Acun Ilicali. “But the football I want to see in my team is not the football style Liam is playing.

“I want to jump on my seat watching the team. I want the crowd to get more and more excited.”
