"Staff will be on hand throughout the week to give visitors top tips on selecting, planting and growing their own tomatoes."

Tomatoes originate from South America, where they grow wild. They were first cultivated as early as 700 AD.

They were originally grown in Britain and the rest of Europe as ornamental climbers and were cultivated for their decorative leaves and fruit. The first known British tomato grower was Patrick Bellow, in 1554.
