Arctics plan home town gigs after two-year gap

SHEFFIELD band Arctic Monkeys have announced plans for a major gig in their home town.

The group will play in a marquee at the Don Valley Bowl on Friday, June 10, and Saturday, June 11, with tickets going on sale at 9am on Friday.

According to Sheffield International Venues (SIV), which runs the venue, the band will be perform in a custom-designed marquee.

They will be supported by a line-up of special guests including Miles Kane, The Vaccines, and Sheffield band the Dead Sons on June 10.

Miles Kane will return on the Saturday night, but will be joined by support acts Anna Calvi and city group Mabel Love on June 11.

Frontman singer Alex Turner and the band, Jamie Cook, Matt Helders and Nick O’Malley, confirmed the Sheffield dates last night.

Turner said: “We’re really looking forward to playing Sheffield with our special guests.

“It’s great doing our own event and it’s going to be a wonderful couple of days in our home town.”

The band last played the city in November 2009 when they made their Sheffield Arena debut in front of 12,000 fans.

They will also be playing at a number of festival gigs in Europe this summer.
