Arts Diary: Will Marriott

Two former stars of TV show Hollyoaks have been reunited – surprisingly – at a theatre. Why surprising? Well, one of them has never been on stage before.

Stuart Manning played Russ Owen in the Channel 4 soap and also appeared in I'm A Celebrity – but despite his extensive TV work, has never appeared on stage previously. He will make his theatre debut in Kay Mellor's A Passionate Woman, which stars the writer herself, at Hull Truck. This week, he has been joined in Hull by former Hollyoaks colleague, Zoe Lister. Zoe is set to work with John Godber on his classic comedy Teechers, which is embarking on a national tour.

A Passionate Woman, which was adapted into a BBC drama screened earlier this year, opens at Hull Truck on September 10.

Meanwhile, the Teechers tour opens at The Lowry in Manchester on September 7 and will visit 13 further venues across the country. It will also be performed back in Hull from November 9-20.

Celebrate Sir Sean Connery's birthday – by watching his favourite film.

The National Media Museum in Bradford will be celebrating the former James Bond's 80th birthday by screening a rare, never-before-screened Sean Connery: BAFTA Interview from the 2006 Edinburgh International Film Festival followed by Sir Sean's personal favourite – The Hill.

The event is on Sunday at 7.10pm. Tickets on www.nationalmediamuseum.

We were slightly worried when we received a note this week with the words "shooting young offenders".

So we were pretty relieved to discover that the only shooting being done was with a camera.

Local photographer Kirsteen Ashton is midway through an

eye-opening artistic project, working with a group of high-risk young offenders at the Serendipity Art Centre, Batley.

Formerly a mainly corporate and commercial photographer, Ashton wants to move more into reportage photography and during this first step for the Leeds photographer she has spent her summer capturing the lives of several young offenders on an artistic project, documenting their personal journeys through a combination of images, blog posts and film.

A Different Window will culminate in the screening of a short film, alongside an exhibition of the young people's artwork as well as Ashton's photographs and an accompanying book.

AS Last of the Summer Wine draws to a close, broadcaster, poet and Yorkshire Post columnist Ian McMillan will be paying tribute to television's longest running situation comedy on Radio 4.

Ian, as readers will know, is a warm and witty choice to present this loving look back at the show which is on Sunday at 1.30pm.

His gentle meanderings through the exploits of the three bungling, elderly oddballs, Compo, Foggy and Clegg, will be in the tradition of their adventures which charmed viewers of all generations for more than a third of a century. Too good to miss really.
