Baker tweets dismay at BBC over show axe

presenter Danny Baker told fans yesterday that one of his popular radio shows is being axed by the BBC, just days before he is honoured with a top broadcasting award.

He told his online followers: “Just been told the BBC London Show The Treehouse is to be shut down after all. Saves BBC money apparently.”

Baker is due to be inducted into the Radio Academy Hall of Fame next week.

Two years ago to the day he told fans he had been diagnosed with cancer and underwent a period of treatment but bounced back after a period off air to resume his presenting career.

He told fans on Twitter yesterday: “BBC asked me not to say anything just yet about axing best show on British radio. Why? Because it’s embarrassing? Because they’ll look bad?”

Baker, 55, went on: “Hey BBC middle management. Seriously, I’ll be fine, don’t feel bad.”

He posted a picture of his Sony Awards and said he could sell them.

The presenter’s agent, Alex Armitage, said Baker was being dropped as a result of huge cuts in the budget to the local radio network. He added: “Personally I think it is crazy.”
