Beyoncé to top bill at sold-out Glastonbury

Superstar Beyoncé is to close this year’s Glastonbury Festival with a headline slot.

The singer will perform on the main Pyramid Stage with a 90-minute show to round off this summer’s event on Sunday June 26, she has announced.

She follows in the footsteps of husband Jay-Z who topped the bill in 2008 – an appearance that divided many festivalgoers some of whom were unhappy at a hip-hop act appearing in a headline slot.

Crazy in Love singer Beyoncé said: “This really is the biggest festival in the world and I cannot wait to perform there. Everyone who attends is really appreciative of music and is in such a good mood that entire weekend.

“I’m pumped just thinking about that huge audience and soaking up their energy.”

She attended the rural event at Worthy Farm in Pilton, Somerset, in 2008 to see Jay-Z’s Saturday night show.

This year’s festival is already a sell-out despite, as has now become common custom, the organisers not announcing the main acts until much nearer the event.

In 2010, the headliners included Stevie Wonder and Gorillaz, a last-minute replacement for U2 who dropped out after singer Bono suffered a back injury.
