Cordings of Piccadilly to open in Harrogate
Since 1839 Cordings has clothed explorers, rock stars and royalty in understated traditional British clothing, so far all from its iconic store in Piccadilly. Eric Clapton is a wearer and liked Cordings so much that he acquired a stake in the company in 2003. Harrogate will be Cordings second store, and the first to open in 176 years of the company’s history.
A spokesperson for Cordings said: “Yorkshire felt like the right location. We have strong connections, many of our tweeds and city suitings are woven by local mills, and many of our products are made in the county. Harrogate is such a stunning location, and we are really excited to be bringing our complete collection to the town.”

Hide AdCordings covers menswear and womenswear, offering a range of tweed jackets, velvet waistcoats Liberty blouses and handmade leather boots. The new Westminster Arcade shop will house three floors of Cordings collections, including field and country clothing, city suits and its exclusive womenswear collection.
Noll Uloth, Cordings managing director, said: “We have resisted attempts to open a second store in the past, but feel that Harrogate is the perfect location for Cordings. The store will as big as Piccadilly, and I feel we will be able to do justice to our collections, giving customers the same experience as they would get if they visited us in London. I am particularly excited to be able to show our five core products that epitomise the Cordings ethos, our Covert Coat, Mackintosh, Tweed jackets, Cord and Moleskin Trousers and our Tattersall Shirts.”
Cordings are famed as the originator of the Covert Coat, and were the first to use the traditional checks found on horse blankets to create Tattersall shirts, now an essential part of the country wardrobe. The collection also includes caps, lambswool knits, waistcoats, city suits and accessories, which led the Duke of Wellington to assert: “Without question Cordings is the complete outfitter, you have everything under one roof”.
The store is scheduled to open Mid November.
