Daltrey bringing Tommy to two Yorkshire venues this summer

ROGER Daltrey will be performing The Who’s Tommy in Yorkshire this summer.

The lead singer of The Who will perform the legendary rock opera plus a selection of other Who classics at Ripley Castle on Sunday July 17.

Two days later he will be at Hull City Hall.

Although he will be performing without Who guitarist Pete Townshend, his younger brother guitarist Simon Townshend will be joining him along with Frank Simes, Scott Deavours on drums, Jon Button on bass and Loren Gold on keyboards.

The Who appeared at Hull’s KC Stadium in 2007, but it is thought it is the first time Daltrey will play Hull City Hall in 40 years.

The band recorded “Live at Hull” – which Daltrey said was better than the now classic “Live at Leeds” – was finally released last year after modern technology was used to clear up technical problems which prevented it being released at the time.

A landmark in modern music, Tommy has won multi-generational appeal.

Inducted into The Grammy Hall of Fame in 1998, the 20 million-selling double album also spawned a successful 1975 film of the same name – with Daltrey playing the title role.

Pete Townshend said: “Great to see Roger performing Tommy with his band in 2011.

“I will be there in spirit, and Roger has my complete and most loving support.

“Roger is touring his unique concert version of Tommy using his faithful presentation of the original work as the backbone for a set of wider material... it is wonderful to hear the way Roger and his new band re-interpret the old Who songs.’’

Tickets for the Ripley Castle gig are now on sale. They cost £35 and are available on various websites including www.seetickets.com.
