What to look out for? Well, this is a great time to buy a fur-trimmed hooded parka, because there are plenty of them going half price in the sales this week (check out Dorothy Perkins and Topshop). While fashion seems to have decided that they have had their moment for now, urban utility outerwear in khaki, black and brown is a classic and will always look relevant. True, fur trim limits wear to chillier days and the winter months, but we have more than enough of those in the UK to make it a worthwhile investment.

Look out for padded jackets too, ideal for wearing with jeans and leggings on action-packed outdoor days, and faux fur coats and jackets, especially ones in seasonal shades such as baby blue and soft pink (well, that was always going to happen), although the white and neutral coloured ones are still full price, in the main.

It’s full price too for wraps and cape styles and indeed more seem to be finding their way into the High Street stores, which makes a lot of sense as they are ideal trans-season pieces, working well with new spring trends and easy to layer beneath, to suit the weather.

There’s plenty new season spring outerwear too, should you be looking to invest in new trends and colours. Take a look at the websites of fashion companies that specialise in contemporary classic British outerwear, including Cornwall-based Seasalt, which has neat, cool waterproof jackets in punchy bright colours, plus wellies to match and lots of pieces that will instantly make you long to take off for the coast. Celtic & Co has lots of luxurious classic leather and sheepskin coats and jackets, while Cotton Traders has a good sale on at the moment, with knitwear, coats and faux fur all as bargains.

Whether you wrap up and head for the shops, or browse cosily at home, get shopping.
