The last day of spring has produced a mixed bag of results weather-wise for the UK.
Britain’s meteorological summer begins on June 1 - and Wales and the south west of England have been getting a head-start thanks to some warm temperatures and sunny skies.
People in Torquay, Devon, have already enjoyed temperatures of around 20C this morning - while schoolchildren on half-term in Swansea have been making the most of the glorious weather by tucking into ice creams for breakfast on the seafront.
Joe’s Ice Cream Parlour, which has a restaurant in the Welsh city’s Mumbles area, opened its doors at 9.30am and was met with an influx of customers.
Director Helen Brown said: “In a word, it’s been manic. The weather has been fantastic - which is not only great for business but also for schoolkids on half-term.
“We were busy the moment we opened up this morning. When the weather is this good, parents will even allow their kids to have ice cream for breakfast.”
There have been sunny skies over Belfast and Edinburgh too.
However, the weather is a very different picture in the east - with colder weather, heavy rain and cloudy skies.
In Newcastle Upon Tyne, mid-morning saw temperatures at around 10C while London has been grey and wet.
Scientist Eva Amsen, who works in the capital, said: “Things to do in the rain in London? I just went to work. It’s dry inside.”
A cool, cloudy and windy day, with outbreaks of rain and drizzle spreading west from the North Sea during the morning. These could be heavy at times, especially during the morning, but also later in the day. Maximum Temperature 14 °C.
Further outbreaks of rain are expected, perhaps heavy at times. It will also remain rather cloudy and murky, especially across coastal areas, with mist, occasional drizzle, and hill fog likely. Minimum Temperature 8 °C.
A dull and damp day, with cloudy skies and further outbreaks of rain, locally heavy during the morning. It will also remain rather windy, leading to a cool feel. Maximum Temperature 14 °C.
Outlook for Thursday to Saturday
Drier Thursday, but staying rather cloudy, especially along the coast. Sunny spells and lighter winds are expected Friday, but also isolated showers. Warmer, with more prolonged sunshine likely on Saturday.
