Forsaking the rough for the smooth

As the promise of a long, hot summer beckons, it's time to prepare to bare. Stephanie Smith finds out how to achieve silky skin.

Dr Pixie McKenna, right, of C4's Embarrassing Bodies, is a GP who specialises in dermatology and she has been brought on board by

Vaseline as brand ambassador of its Sheer Infusion range.

She has the following advice on getting perfect skin.

1 Get hydrated. Start drinking at least two pints of water per day to promote internal hydration.

2 Remember, the hotter the shower water, the more skin moisture is lost.

3 Moisturise. Don't be tempted to apply layer upon layer of thick greasy moisturiser to the skin, as layering traps heat as well as moisture.

Instead, apply a light, silky, super-hydrating moisturiser, such as Vaseline Sheer Infusion (4.99 for 200ml, from Boots, supermarkets and pharmacies), while Sheer Infusion Vitamin Burst contains vitamins B and E to banish dull skin (also 4.99).

4 Get enough sleep. Getting seven to eight hours is highly beneficial for the skin.

If you're deprived of sleep, this will make your skin appear dull and tired.
