Garden Tips: Succeeding with holly
If you want berries you will need to plant a male and a female plant close to each other to ensure berry production. If you only have room for one bush, go for a self-fertile type such as Ilex aquifolium 'Pyramidalis' or JC van Tol', which will produce berries without a partner.
In autumn net the branches you will want to cut for berries so the birds don't strip them.
If you want to move a young seedling holly, do it in late winter or early spring to give it the best chance of survival.
