Hands-off approach to healing body and spirit

I am normally a very sceptical person. So when Catherine Wallace said she heals people without even touching them I couldn't bring myself to believe it.

Catherine is a reconnective healing practitioner.

Reconnective healing claims to use frequencies only recently available on this planet to realign our bodies.

It was discovered by chiropractor Eric Pearl whose patients said they could feel his hands on them even when he wasn't touching them. Many of his patients, he claimed, soon started experiencing miraculous healings from afflictions such as cancer, arthritis, cerebral palsy and depression.

He looked for a scientific explanation for what was happening and came up with reconnective healing.

Practitioners believe that the world is shifting and, as a result, allowing us to reconnect with the universe.

Catherine tries to explain: "Reconnective healing takes us beyond the entirety of energy into a spectrum that expands beyond energy, into light and information."

Catherine, from Scarborough, discovered reconnective healing after spending 14 years in the Carmelite Order, first in York and then in Darlington.

"It was a life that was both rewarding and challenging and one where I discovered who I was, and what made me tick," explains Catherine.

"Just as I had answered and followed my vocational calling inside the Order, I was being called to go out. I knew my path was that of a healer and it was a scary one. At the time of leaving, I was already qualified as a reiki and Seichem master, as well

as a journey therapist. I went on to do my diploma in holistic therapies, Indian head massage, hypnotherapy and EFT."

In 2009, she came across Dr Eric Pearl and the idea of reconnection.

"Although I loved all my healing work which had evolved over the years, there was something about reconnective healing that resonated with me, and something that I feel is perhaps the most important work I'm being called to do.

"Reconnective healing is not a treatment, nor a therapy; it's not symptom- based. It's not about removing this physical symptom or that emotional blockage. It's more than that. Reconnective healing is about bringing the system back into balance on all levels, be it physical, emotional, mental, spiritual or any of the other levels we're not consciously aware of."

As well as reconnective healing, Catherine offers the Reconnection, a two-day experience which claims to take people into the next stage of their evolution.

Catherine admits that it is a complex thing to try to understand. Unlike many treatment and therapies being offered at the York Healing Clinic where Catherine works, she says she doesn't even need to know what is wrong with a client.

"The reconnective healing spectrum has its own intelligence that determines the perfect form the healing should take for you; it doesn't need me to direct the healing according to my limited, conscious, educated mind."

She said that everyone's experience of the frequencies is different, some report visions, colours, lights and sounds they have never known before. Some experience the energy as a cold breeze, others as heat.

The frequencies can be experienced in waves or as tingling, either through the whole body or perhaps just in one specific limb or area.

For me, I felt an uncontrollable fluttering of my eyelids and a bright light and heat. At one stage in the half-hour session I felt my chest get very heavy and my breathing became laboured. It was an unusual sensation and hard to describe. It wasn't unpleasant but I can't say it was enjoyable. Something definitely happened but I'm not too sure what.

At the end of the session I felt light-headed and some- what different. "It changes your perspective on things," said Catherine as I left.

Reconnective Healing doesn't make sense, but for those that say it has cured them of their ailments it doesn't have to.
