Jazz Preview: Humour in reply to Larkin, the love-hate critic

Philip Larkin's love-hate relationship with jazz will be explored in the Studio at Hull Truck Theatre on Sunday night. Trombone Poetry and All What Jazz? sets out to challenge some of Larkin's jazz criticism, which turned sour from Charlie Parker onwards – but it is not a hatchet job.

"There is a sense of humour in the response," said promoter David Porter.

The evening is part of the Larkin 25 season marking the death in 1985 of the poet who was librarian at Hull University for 30 years.
