New location list aims to give Yorkshire more starring roles

HOMES of all shapes and sizes across Yorkshire could soon be gracing the silver screen after an appeal was launched to find new locations suitable for filming.

Creative England is compiling a database of properties and is looking for anything from inner-city terraces to manor houses to add to its list of potential stars.

Chris Hordley, Creative England’s production liaison manager for the region, said: “Yorkshire is brilliant. It has so much scope and variety; there’s a wealth of properties on offer.”

The appeal coincides with the screening of the first episode of Parade’s End at 9pm tonight. The BBC Two drama stars Benedict Cumberbatch and was filmed around Duncome Park in Helmsley, as well as in the North York Moors National Park.

Other recent projects include Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part I filming at Malham Cove. In 2007, Bollywood film 1920 was shot at Allerton Park.

But it is not just rolling hills and stately homes which provide the right scenes. Prisoners’ Wives and the film Four Lions were filmed among the terraces of Sheffield, while Oscar winner The King’s Speech used the Bradford Bulls’ stadium and Elland Road, Leeds.
