Shoppers turn clock back for warmer look

Yorkshire shoppers are responding to the cold snap by going back to the Eighties, according to Meadowhall in Sheffield.

Shops in the centre are reporting strong sales of '80s must-have The Snood (a cowl-like scarf-cum-hood), with pop stars Katie Perry and Rhianna pictured sporting them to keep snug in the snow (Topshop has lots, starting at 14). Cheryl Cole, meanwhile, has been seen out and about in a pompom woolly hat, resulting in huge demand, while ear muffs are also seeing a resurgence, as are over-sized scarves and faux fur jackets.

Richard Pinfold, Meadowhall marketing director, said: "It was in the early Eighties we last saw a winter of such venom, showing that some forces are stronger than the catwalk when it comes to seasonal trends.

"Outdoor stores such as Blacks and Quicksilver are seeing a massive surge in sales of snow products such as snow boots and snow suits being bought by non-skiers in a bid to get warm."

Meanwhile a new survey has revealed that Ugg boots, jeggings and tattoos are top of a new list of fashion trends that men says they hate to see women wearing. A study of more than 1,500 men aged between 18 and 30 by website www. MyCelebrity Fashion. co.uk found that Ugg boots were the most hated fashion item, with 57 per cent of men saying they hated them, while more than half disliked the fashion phenomenon of jeggings (leggings in a jeans style), 38 per cent disliked harem-style baggy trousers and 30 per cent hated leg-warmers.

Colour made a massive impact on men, with a whopping 73 per cent saying they hated the recent trend for neon fashions, closely followed by pink.

Three in five men said they found dark coloured clothing sexy.

When asked what styles men hated to see on other men, skinny jeans were rated top, hated by 57 per cent of respondents.
