Show time looms

Harrogate's famous Spring Flower Show is one of the most prestigious events in the gardening calendar – and it's next week. Several exhibitors are taking advantage of the wonderful setting to launch new bulbs, new ventures and the world's largest spade.

The show (April 22-25) is the first major independent horticultural show of the season and will boast more than 100 of the country's leading horticultural nurseries, all exhibiting and competing for Best in Show and the NEHS Trophy.

On a more quirky note, Bulldog tools – celebrating 230 years of British tool manufacturing – have created the world's largest spade.

Also not to be missed – the Wakefield & North of England Tulip Society joins the Daffodil Society to put on two spectacular shows.
