Plenty of theatrical treats for youngsters

parents wanting to introduce their young ones to the delights of theatre normally have to wait for Christmas and panto time.

However, West Yorkshire Playhouse, in Leeds, is staging a series of plays for young people over the coming months in a bid to get younger theatre-goers through the door.

Award-winning children’s writer and artist Oliver Jeffers’ picture book Lost and Found has been adapted for the stage by Travelling Light and Polka Theatre. Telling the story of one boy and the penguin he finds at his door, this heart-warming tale comes to the Playhouse from February 24-27.

The Chichester Festival Theatre production of Michelle Magorian’s award-winning novel Goodnight Mister Tom is at the theatre April 5 to 9. The show celebrates the 30th anniversary of the book.

Peppa Pig’s Party, which is already selling well, is at the theatre April 13 to 16.

Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler’s hugely-successful book The Gruffalo’s Child, the sequel to the massively popular The Gruffalo, comes to the Quarry stage in a musical adaptation by Tall Stories from June 1 to 4. Info and tickets on 0113 213 7700.
