FILM: It’s a Wonderful Life subtitled screening - Hyde Park Picture House, Leeds.

It’s hard to imagine a more heartwarming Christmas present than a pair of tickets to see one of the best loved movies ever made at the beautiful, 101-year-old Hyde Park Picture House in Leeds. MUSIC: André Rieu - Sheffield Arena.

The wildly popular Dutch violin virtuoso visits Sheffield Arena with his Johann Strauss Orchestra. Expect a peerless performance encompassing the most sweepingly romantic of pieces to lively, clap-along waltzes. Tickets cost a small fortune, but are nonetheless selling allegro. Time: 8pm. MUSIC: Shed Seven & Inspiral Carpets - O2 Academy Leeds.

York and Manchester’s finest Britpop exports meet in the middle for a brace of huge shows at Leeds’ O2 Academy. What finer way to welcome in the Christmas hols for those who like their live music anthemic, adrenaline-charged and a little bit lairy? Time: 7pm. WALK: Boxing Day Walk - Marsden Moor Estate

Spend a heavenly Boxing Day on this 5-mile group walk above Marsden, West Yorks. Participants are advised to wear suitable clothing and bring refreshments. Time: 1.30pm-4.30pm (Meet at Marsden railway station) Tickets: Free.

EVENT: Mile of Pennies, Scarborough South Bay.

Join in with the grand old Boxing Day tradition of helping to line up a mile of pennies along Scarborough seafront. Proceeds from this fundraising event go to the Fisherman & Fireman’s Charity. Those in search of a more extreme (and hypothermia-inducing) Boxing Day diversion need look no further than the fancy dress Big Dips taking place at Whitby and Bridlington. EVENT: Leeds Record Fair, Leeds Corn Exchange.

There’ll be over 35 tables of collectible records and CDs for sale at the Corn Exchange in Leeds on December 27th, making this one of the biggest record fairs in the North. Where better to spend whatever’s left of your Christmas funds? Time: 10am-4pm. Tickets: Free entry.

MUSIC: Christmas Concert Duo - Sewerby Hall & Gardens, Bridlington

This Christmas Orangery Concert from classical flute and piano duo Ann and Garth Blackburn promises to be one of the region’s best value-for-money festive events. Two and three-course Christmas meals will also be on offer at the Grade I listed property. Time: 1pm. Tickets: £2.45.

EXHIBITION: The Brontës, War and Waterloo - Brontë Parsonage Museum, Haworth

Lovers of classic Yorkshire literature should seize on the Christmas holidays as an opportunity to catch this intriguing exhibition exploring the Brontë sisters’ fascination with the Napoleonic wars.
