A1 landmark hotel finds a new owner

A LANDMARK hotel complex in North Yorkshire has been sold off an asking price of £3m after it went into receivership.

The Scotch Corner Hotel, which occupies a prominent position at the junction of the A1 and the A66, has been bought by a private hotel operator.

The complex includes 90 bedrooms, a restaurant and conference facilities for up to 450 delegates.

The Leeds office of chartered surveyors Eddisons was appointed as LPA receivers by the Bank of Scotland and concluded the sale within four weeks.

Anthony Spencer, director in valuation services at Eddisons, said: 'We are delighted to have concluded the sale so quickly and in doing so have achieved an excellent result for all interested parties.

"The fact that we were able to draw on the expertise of our specialist in-house departments contributed significantly to the speed of the sale."

The 71-year-old red brick hotel was given a 1m refit in 2007, but went into administration in January 2009, after its parent company, Real Hotel Company, folded.
