Actor Brian Blessed lines up a dinner date with accountants

THE booming tones of actor and explorer Brian Blessed will resound around one of Yorkshire's best-known hotels later this year.

The Mexborough-born miner's son, who has appeared in many films and television dramas, will be the keynote speaker at the Leeds Chartered Accountants' annual dinner, which is being held at the Queens Hotel, in Leeds, on Friday, March 11.

After working as an undertaker and a plasterer's assistant, Mr Blessed decide to carve out a career on the stage.

He has also attempted to climb Mount Everest, gone on expeditions in the South American jungle, and is still the oldest man on record to trek on foot to the North Pole.

Tim Parr, the president of the West Yorkshire Society of Chartered Accountants, said: "We are delighted that Brian has agreed to be our after-dinner speaker and I am sure guests will be extremely well entertained.

"It will also be good to raise badly needed funds for the Recanto Sao Francisco orphanage, in Brazil, where my eldest daughter spent her gap year, and my wife and I spent some time a few years ago."

Gerald Russell, the president of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales, will also be attending the event, which is being sponsored by law firm Lee & Priestley and Finance Yorkshire.
