Allam commits to £4m expansion as part of plans for business park

the Wykeland Group has submitted plans for a £7m development at the Meltonwest business park, near Hull.

The Humber-based developer wants to build two buildings, including one for generator manufacturer Allam Marine. The other will be for an as yet unnamed manufacturer, which is expected to create 100 jobs.

Allam is spending £4m on a state of the art factory and office complex next to its existing building on the business park.

The 65,000 sq ft expansion will create 20 new jobs, bringing the workforce up to 50.

The family-owned company, run by the father and son team of Assem and Ehab, has grown despite the downturn and last year saw turnover grow by 15 per cent to £132m.

Ehab Allam, operations director, said: “To take Allam Marine to the next level we need to expand and are investing significant amounts to do that.

“As well as the land and building, the company will be investing in new plant, such as cranes, steel works and lifting equip- ment.

“However, our projections show that it will enable us to up our revenue to between £180m to £200m very quickly, and then beyond that in subsequent years.”

The news comes after Wykeland, founded by late businessman Jack Brignall, started work on a speculative development at the park, believed to be the first since the recession.

Dominic Gibbons, managing director, said he decided to commit after seeing signs of renewed confidence in the region.
