Appointments: Law firm recruits partner with wide knowledge of health and safety and environmental matters

Law firm Ward Hadaway has extended the range of services at its Leeds office with the recruitment of partner Kirsty Gomersal.

Ms Gomersal was formerly head of regulatory at law firm Cobbetts in Leeds and specialises in health and safety and environmental matters.

She advises both organisations and individuals on a wide range of compliance and risk-management issues as well as carrying out regular training sessions on such issues.

Property consultancy Knight Frank has strengthened its Yorkshire office agency team with the appointment of Elizabeth Ridler as a partner.

Ms Ridler joins the Leeds office of Knight Frank after a two-year break from commercial property. She was previously with King Sturge in Leeds for 14 years.

Alex Munro, the head of commercial agency development at Knight Frank in Leeds, said: “We are absolutely delighted to welcome someone of Lizzie’s experience, expertise and excellent reputation to our Leeds office.”

Spencer R Bennett, an independent financial adviser with more than 25 years’ experience, has joined local accountancy firm Clough & Company to head up Chartford Financial Management, the firm’s financial solutions division.

Mr Bennett has worked as an independent financial adviser for various regional and national advisers, legal and accountancy firms in Yorkshire.

He will lead a team of qualified advisers providing advice to corporate clients and individuals on everything from financial protection to investment planning.

National law firm Irwin Mitchell has appointed Sue Weatherson as its new director of risk and compliance.

Ms Weatherson, who reports directly to Irwin Mitchell’s national managing partner, John Pickering, will have overall responsibility for ensuring the firm complies with its regulatory requirements.

Previously the director of risk and compliance at Withers LLP, Ms Weatherson replaces partner Louise Sykes who will now focus on leading Irwin Mitchell’s wills, trust and estate disputes team.

Two new members have joined the Science City York Advisory Board.

The Advisory Board is composed of figures from the region’s private and public sector, bringing further perspective and first-hand knowledge on high-level business needs, drivers and challenges.

Marcus Romer, Artistic Director of the Pilot Theatre, has accepted the position as the Advisory Board’s creative chair.
