Arc aims to add staff as turnover increases

A YORKSHIRE-based law firm which specialises in conveyancing has defied the tough economic climate to see its turnover rise dramatically over the last year.

Arc Property Solicitors, which is based in Harrogate, expects to increase its staff numbers from 40 to 60 by September as it increases its market share.

Richard Chan, the company’s founder, yesterday told the Yorkshire Post that he expects turnover to rise from £6.6m to £10.7m this year.

He said Arc’s success was due to its use of the internet as a platform to market its services and carry out deals.

Mr Chan said the company’s customer base was fairly evenly spread across the UK.

The company employs a mix of legally qualified and customer service trained staff.

“Customers are finding us through search engines and partner sites,” he said.

“There are signs of people coming back to the (property) mar-ket.

“All the signs are there for a recovery.

“I think it will be a slow burner over a number of years.”

Mr Chan, who started Arc as a sole practitioner in 2004, hopes to triple the size of the business in the next few years. He also said he had no plans to move as the firm grows.

“It’s a lifestyle thing. I like to live and work in Harrogate.

“We don’t see that many of our clients.”

In 2009, the company established a client services team.

It also uses an online tracking system, which allows customers to keep an eye on the progress of their case in a secure environment.

Arc is also trialling a life insurance product and is potentially gearing up for third party investment through an alternative business structure.
