Atom adds second First Direct alum to its ranks, as digital bank prepares to launch

THE UK’s first bank designed for digital has continued its raid on First Direct’s senior team, as its head of marketing follows its chief executive to leave for the start-up.

Lisa Wood has joined Atom as chief marketing officer.

Atom is set to launch in 2015 as a consumer and business bank, subject to regulatory approval.

Mark Mullen, former chief executive of First Direct, was recruited to launch the digital bank by Anthony Thomson, co-founder and former chairman of Metro Bank.

Commenting on Ms Wood’s appointment, Mr Mullen said: “She understands how a bank without branches works, and knows what today’s consumers want from their bank.”

In East Yorkshire, the Institute of Directors (IoD) has appointed Pat Coyle as chairman of its regional branch.

Ms Coyle is client relations director at Hull-based Rollits and has been an active member of the East Yorkshire branch since 2007.

She succeeds Richard Tuplin, who steps down after seven years in the role.

Ms Coyle said she is “confident” the branch and committee can carry on Mr Tuplin’s work, which has grown membership to more than 150.

In Leeds, accountancy firmMazars has appointed two partners to its growing office.

Rob Burton has been promoted to corporate finance partner, having worked for the firm for nine years.

Craig Manson joins the firm as audit and advisory partner from Garbutt and Elliott.

The Leeds office now has 12 partners and 93 staff.
