Beer born out of love will soon be available in supermarkets

A GROOM’S romantic nature can manifest itself in surprising ways.Bar manager Matt Gorecki, for example, was inspired to name a beer after his blushing bride while he was out enjoying his stag night.

The lady in question – Alice Porter, from Leeds – will soon be able to see the beer named in her honour every time she pops out to her local supermarket.

The Alice Porter beer will soon be available nationwide at Tesco supermarkets. In November 2010, Mr Gorecki, the manager of North Bar in Leeds, and five of his best friends made the trip to Fraserburgh in Aberdeen for his stag party.

While enjoying the local ale, Mr Gorecki decided that a new beer should be named after Alice.

With help from BrewDog, Scotland’s largest independent brewery, Mr Gorecki and his friends developed the beer, which is a 6.2 per cent renaissance Baltic porter.

James Watt, co-founder at BrewDog, said: “We’re pretty sure this is the first beer ever brewed at a craft beer stag party. Given Alice’s surname, it seemed obvious to our master brewers to create a porter style beer, but we combined a 300 year-old recipe with hop varieties from the UK and Japan to make sure the result was something bold and complex.”

Mr Gorecki said yesterday: “Brewing a beer named after your fiancée seemed like a great idea, but it actually proved pretty nerve-racking. The fact it has been so popular is amazing.”
