Building that was home to Sooty on the market

A LANDMARK building which was once home to the World of Sooty museum has been put on the market.

Windmill Manor, on Leeds Road in Shipley, which has had a varied history, was originally a Victorian school building.

The World of Sooty was opened in the early 1990s, but this was later replaced by an animatronic cat exhibition,

Most recently, the building was converted into three-storey offices and is currently home to The Direct Marketing Group, which is relocating.

The sale is being handled by the Bradford office of Eddisons Chartered Surveyors, which is looking for offers in the region of £895,000.

Shazad Mahmood, of Eddisons, said: “This is one of the most well known buildings in the area and enjoys a prominent position in the Aire Valley corridor. It is also close to Shipley town centre and railway station.”

Mr Mahmood added that the building has a range of potential future uses, subject to the necessary planning consents. “Although the building would suit a continuation of its use as high quality offices, the location and large dedicated car park mean it lends itself to a multitude of alternative uses, including a restaurant, health club or private medical practice,” he said.

The property occupies a site of approximately 0.82 acres and also includes a two-bedroom residential dwelling, currently used as a caretaker’s residence.
