Business leaders to get the chance to quiz local MPs

ENTREPRENEURS will get the chance to quiz local MPs about their response to the global financial crisis at a major event later this year.

Business leaders will put MPs under the spotlight at a ‘Parliamentarians’ Panel’ which has been organised by the West Yorkshire branch of the Institute of Directors in Leeds.

Liberal Democrat MP Greg Mulholland, who represents Leeds North West, Fabian Hamilton, the Labour MP for Leeds North East, and Conservative MP Stuart Andrew, who represents Pudsey, will face members of the business community, who will be keen to find out what the Government and Opposition are doing to help the recovery in Yorkshire. It is the first event of its kind organised by West Yorkshire IoD.

The event will take place at the Mint Hotel, Leeds, on Friday, November 25.

Charlotte Britton, the chairman of the West Yorkshire IoD, said: “We need to develop a forum where business leaders can engage with their MPs. In times of austerity business leaders need to step up and make a difference in their communities. We know the growth in the Leeds economy will come from the SME (small and medium sized enterprise) sector. Supporting and nurturing new start-ups and high growth business needs to be the focus.

“We need to create the environment for their success. We wanted to remind MPs that the business community is a force to be reckoned with and highlight the key business issues in Yorkshire such as alterations to business rates, the Enterprise Partnerships and the demise of Business Link.”

The event will be hosted by business communications consultant Jon Hammond.
