call the fire brigade: Profits landmark for rescue vehicle maker Angloco

Fire engine maker Angloco has helped to extinguish some of the prevailing doom and gloom by reporting its biggest-ever pre-tax profit.

The family-owned company designs, manufactures and distributes fire-fighting and rescue vehicles and equipment from its base in Batley.

It reported turnover of £16m in the year ending December 2012, with £5m coming from exports, and broke through the £1m pre-tax profit barrier for the first time.

Established in 1965, the company is now one year away from two decades of consecutive growth in pre-tax profits.

Last year Angloco won its biggest-ever contract, worth nearly £20m, to supply BAA with 23 fire-fighting vehicles.

Angloco is sourcing the vehicles from an Austrian manufacturer with support from its long-standing banker, Barclays. The deal was five years in the making.

Bill Brown, chairman, managing director and shareholder, said business is “quite good” with two to three months of next year already full. Angloco employs 71 people. Mr Brown expects to recruit two or three more in sales management roles.
