Celebration time for graduates

GRADUATE interns will be celebrating their achievements at a regional awards ceremony this week.

Graduates Yorkshire, in conjunction with the region’s universities, will host the Yorkshire Internship of the Year Awards 2011, on Thursday, at Toast bar in Leeds.

Sponsored by LGYH (Local Government Yorkshire & Humber), there are five categories, including overall Yorkshire Internship of the Year and the best internship in North, South, West Yorkshire and the Humber.

Karen Weaver, from LGYH, said: “We are delighted to be involved in this year’s Yorkshire Internship of the Year. Graduates Yorkshire’s work is invaluable in terms of opening up opportunities for graduates across all sectors.”

Graduates Yorkshire has placed 130 internships in the past year and 85 per cent of these have been retained in full-time employment.

Chief executive Martin Edmondson said: “With the current graduate internship scheme coming to a close at the end of March, the Yorkshire Internship Awards provide us with the opportunity to bring both interns and companies together to celebrate what we have achieved over the past few years.”
