Chance to have a word with a member of the MPC

YORKSHIRE business people will have the chance to quiz a member of the Bank of England committee that sets interest rates next week.

Guests will also be able to find out what Dr Andrew Sentance thinks about the Bank's efforts to revive the economy by boosting the money supply.

Dr Sentance, an external member of the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC), will be the guest speaker at a breakfast event organised by Leeds, York and North Yorkshire Chamber of Commerce.

Guests will be able to tell Dr Sentance what they believe the MPC should do to help the UK's economy grow.

A York and North Yorkshire Chamber of Commerce spokesman said: "Dr Sentance's previous experience working within the private sector for British Airways means that he will have a sound understanding of the economic needs of the business community, ensuring lively discussion and debate."

Shaun Watts, President of York and North Yorkshire Chamber of Commerce, said: "In a unique opportunity, one of the country's leading policy makers is coming to our region to hear views of local businesses on the economy, local business performance and how the MPC's policies have affected our region."

The event takes place on January 20 from 7.30am to 9.30am at the Merchant Taylor's Hall in York. It costs 14 plus VAT for chamber members and 28 plus VAT for non-members. To book a place email events@yourchamber .org.uk
