Companies urged to show green credentials in leading awards

The competition, set up to recognise the work being carried out to put Yorkshire at the heart of the UK’s low-carbon economy, is open for entries until April 1. Prizes will be awarded at a ceremony on May 19.

The third annual competition will honour the best environmental work being carried out by business, schools, individuals and community groups.

Last year’s ceremony was hosted by broadcaster Julia Bradbury with the prizes being handed out by Hilary Benn, then the Environment Secretary, who described the green transformation taking place across Yorkshire.

The master of ceremonies and keynote speaker for this year’s event will be revealed in due course.

The categories are for Best Environmental Business; Innovation, sponsored by Science City York; Manufacturer of the best green product, Young People’s Award, sponsored by Asda; Built Environment: Projects over £1m, sponsored by Grant Thornton UK LLP; Built Environment: Projects under £1m, sponsored by Logistik; Countryside Award, sponsored by Northern Gas Networks; Green Champion, sponsored by Yorkshire Post; Community Award, sponsored by Yorkshire Water, and Climate Change, sponsored by InterfaceFLOR.
