Composer hopes his music for TV ad campaign will help Persil clean up

music composer Spike Scott, part of Headingley-based Mezzo Group, has produced the music for two new Persil TV commercials plus the score for a new Channel 4 wildlife documentary, The Elephant: Life after Death.

Mr Scott was approached by international advertising agency, Bartle Bogle Hegarty (BBH), to work on the Persil adverts following previous commissions it had undertaken for the agency in 2010.

Repeat business was also behind the Channel 4 wildlife commission after he created the music for Channel 4’s Alan Davies’ Teenage Revolution, also in 2010.

The first Persil commercial, which is currently airing in the UK on all terrestrial channels, plus Sky and in a number of European countries, features a group of children trying to break the record for the most t-shirts worn at the same time.

The record attempt is almost ruined as a child spills blackcurrant juice on his layers until his screen mother and Persil come to the rescue, washing the stains out of each t-shirt.

Music for the advert is a fun version of Roy Castle’s Record Breakers theme tune, sung by a school choir and accompanied by acoustic and percussion instruments creating an organic and endearing sound.

Following the success of the T-shirt commercial, BBH approached Mr Scott to produce a further score for Persil’s bubble car advert. This time, he was briefed to compose an upbeat, quirky tune to accompany the scenario of more and more children piling in to a stylistic bubble car which represents Persil’s marketing brief as “small but packed full of cleaning power”.

Groups of children from the UK and Spain, where the advert is currently playing, sing the music for this commercial. The children featured are from Leeds, London and Madrid.

The bubble car advert will roll out across Europe, Australia, New Zealand and the UK over the next 12 months.

Mr Scott said: “BBH’s advertising know-how is formidable so to be asked to work with them on two campaigns for Persil was a great coup for the team here.

“I hope they both prove to be a great success for BBH and Persil.”
