The Financial Times claimed that the US technology firm is developing a website called “Facebook at Work” to allow users to chat with colleagues, connect with professional contacts and collaborate over documents.

The expansionary move would bring Facebook into competition with Google, Microsoft and LinkedIn.

Facebook employees use the site in their work and expanding this to other companies has been discussed for some time, the FT reported.

The product could take market share from LinkedIn, which has 90m active monthly users, and would pit Facebook against Google Drive and Microsoft Office.

A spokeswoman said: “We’re declining comment.”
