Degree course to create the new business brains

A LEADING figure in the world of private equity is supporting a new degree course which is aimed at students who want to become major players in the business world.

The privately owned BPP University College announced yesterday that it is launching an undergraduate degree in banking and finance, with places available for A level clearing at its Whitehall Quay centre in Leeds.

The BSc (Hons) Banking and Finance degree covers economics, corporate finance and mergers and acquisitions. A spokesman said: “It has been designed to provide a solid grounding in substantive finance while developing the quantitative and technical skills required for a professional career in financial services.”

Jon Moulton, the founder of private equity firm Better Capital, said: “BPP’s practical approach to teaching, together with its city centre location ensures it provides a close to life experience of the workings of the global financial sector, and is great grounding for the world of mergers and acquisitions, and other leading issues.”

BPP University College runs a range of degrees in business and law from its eight UK city centre locations, which emulate the workplace.

Roland Kaye, the dean of BPP Business School, said: “Our aim is to provide career degrees that are relevant to the workplace, and we have designed the new undergraduate degree in banking and finance with this in mind.

“Furthermore, the programme will be integrated with various professional qualifications, so students on the course can gain exemptions from, or be prepared for taking examinations towards, additional qualifications such as the Investment Management Certificate.”

BPP’s tuition fees are £5,000 per year for the three-year undergraduate banking and finance degree, which is also being run from its London City centre.

In July 2010, BPP became the first UK private higher education provider to become a university college since 1976.

In 2012, it opened a School of Health, and extended its degree programmes and locations as part of an extensive expansion drive.

Students are eligible for student loans, and the programme is UCAS listed.
