DURING days of economic turmoil, it pays to be lean and green.

A community organisation is doing its bit to encourage grassroots entrepreneurs, while protecting the environment.

A collection of eco-friendly workshop spaces have been created at a Bradford business park.

The Inspire Bradford Business Park, which is owned and managed by the Newlands Community Association (NCA), has created 14 workshops.

The workshops are aimed at small traders, start-ups and independent organisations who are looking for a home.

Tony Holdich, NCA chief executive, said yesterday: “These workshops have been designed to offer practical space for smaller or specialist companies looking for affordable and high quality premises in Bradford.

“The philosophy at Inspire is to redefine the traditional business park and implement a new blueprint for commerce and community to coexist.

“These new workshops are an integral part of that vision and offer the ideal opportunity for specialist and innovative enterprise to grow.”

The business park is already attracting a wide range of occupiers.

They include educational groups, charitable organisations and software firms.

NCA was established in 1996 to be a focal point for efforts to create jobs by stimulating economic activity in Bradford.

The Newlands area includes Greengates, Thorpe Edge, Fagley, Ravenscliffe, Bradford Moor, Thornbury and Eccleshill.
