The Hollywood star, pictured above at the London premiere with actress wife Angelina Jolie, plays a United Nations employee desperately trying to save the world from a zombie apocalypse in the $400m movie.

Endless, the Leeds-based investor, owns Cinesite, the Soho-based company which produced the visual effects for the film.

Early reviews have been positive, in spite of fears that the film could be an expensive flop.

The Den of Geek website describes it as a “solidly entertaining” and “glossy widescreen spectacle”, while The Guardian summed it up as “a punchy, if conventional action thriller”, which “isn’t a shining addition to the genre – but is no shuffling mess either”.

Endless acquired Cinesite a year ago after its owner Kodak filed for bankruptcy protection.

The partners saw a profitable business with a talented team, but an uncertain future because of the parlous state of its parent company.

Endless moved in and backed the management team, rescuing a world-class London business from the ranks of the living dead.

World War Z opens on June 20.
