Event: How Sheffield’s heat zone can make your business greener, provide new opportunities for jobs, skills development and investment
Everyone is talking about decarbonisation, but for some energy-intensive Yorkshire businesses it can feel a long way off.
That’s why E.ON is holding a special roundtable event for local businesses on how to harness the cleaner, greener heating available through district heating and what the upcoming Sheffield heat zone means for you – with a huge range of additional measures available too.
E.ON’s Blackburn Meadows Biomass Plant generates low carbon heat that supplies local business including the Utilita Arena Sheffield, IKEA, iceSheffield and Sheffield Forgemasters via our district heating network. The plant uses recycled waste wood that would have otherwise gone to landfill from across the UK to provide this heat and also produces enough electrical energy to power the equivalent of around 69,000 homes in South Yorkshire.
From 2025, the Sheffield heat zone will be implemented and E.ON will expand their district heating network to reach thousands of more homes and businesses via 10 km of new pipework. This includes to the Advanced Manufacturing Park and the Northern General Hospital.
What this means for your business
As well as the potential to connect to a low-carbon district heating system for businesses along the proposed route of the extension, there are a number of ways that E.ON can help your organisation become greener.
“Understanding decarbonisation can feel overwhelming at times and it’s hard to know where to start, which is why we’re here to help,” explains Antony Meanwell, E.ON’s Heat Zone Development & Decarbonisation Director.
“With such huge steps being taken to make Sheffield greener, there are a number of solutions we can offer local businesses to be part of this forward-thinking movement to help everyone meet carbon reduction targets and save money on their gas and electricity bills.
“There is funding available to support our business and public sector customers to decarbonise their existing heat generation assets, as well as much more.
“For example, we have been working closely with a hospital trust to cut their carbon emissions: we deployed heat pumps and solar panels, upgraded the windows, added electric vehicle (EV) chargers and upgraded the buildings’ energy management systems to be more efficient.
“We are the experts in this area, and we have the tools available to help you.”
